charges for Consulting and research support services

VLA’s Consultation and Research Support Service provides credentialed experts for a wide variety of visual language related topics. Consultants aim to provide excellent support in their respective areas of expertise.

Such support varies widely in the potential nature and scope of work to be done. Examples include advising on the design and implementation of a bilingual academic program, preparing expert testimony for a legal hearing, advising on the preparation of a dissertation defense, helping secure school or work access to a signed language interpreter or cued language transliterator, reviewing a manuscript for publication, and advising on the design and methodology of a research project.

Each of these examples can include both 1-on-1 time spent with the consultant and related work time by the consultant outside of 1-on-1 appointment time.

As part of scheduling 1-on-1 time with a consultant, clients complete an online consultation intake form. The consultant uses both details provided on the form and information discussed during the free initial 20 minute consult to determine an appropriate charge for the particular consulting request.

The charge is formulated to account for both 1-on-1 appointments and additional work time needed by the consultant to address client requests. Once this charge is agreed upon by the client, consulting work can begin and the client will be billed accordingly.
